Elks Rewrite the Record Books with 10-1 Rout Over Pacific Union
Cal Pac Season Leaders
IRVINE, Calif. — The Stanton University Elks have done it again — and this time, in record-breaking fashion. In what was supposed to be a long-awaited Cal Pac matchup against Pacific Union, the Elks made sure the wait was worth it, storming to a 10-1 victory at Great Park on Sunday night.
The two teams were originally set to clash earlier this month in Northern California, but that match was postponed — and eventually canceled — due to staffing and field issues, resulting in a forfeit win for Stanton. Fast forward to this weekend, and the Elks showed exactly why they've become one of the Cal Pac's most dangerous squads.
Just two days after setting a program record with seven goals against Cal Maritime, Stanton shattered that mark — scoring ten.
The scoring frenzy began just two minutes into the game when Francesco De Marco connected with Janik Moller to open the floodgates. Lorenzo Jacon followed with his first of the night in the 16th minute, assisted by De Marco, who was clearly in playmaker mode. De Marco then picked up his third assist in the 28th minute, setting up Max Harthaum for Stanton's third.
Saimon Shaqiri found Jacon again in the 35th, as the forward buried his second of the match to give the Elks a commanding 4-0 lead heading into halftime.
If Pacific Union hoped to regroup after the break, Stanton had other plans. Jacon completed his hat trick just minutes into the second half, once again assisted by De Marco — a combination that's become lethal throughout the season. The goal pushed Jacon to the top of the Cal Pac scoring charts, while De Marco continued his reign as the conference's assist leader.
Senior midfielder Matteo Sala then got in on the action, assisting Moller in the 48th minute before scoring his own first goal of the season ten minutes later, courtesy of fellow senior Jacob Edwards.
Pacific Union managed a rare breakthrough when Abraham Najem converted a penalty in the 68th minute, but by then, the Elks were well out of reach.
Timon Okupniak recorded his first goal of the season in the 78th minute, set up by Matt Tournier, before Lucas Dino unleashed a thunderous strike that wedged itself between the post and the net — his second goal of the season.
To cap off the historic night, Nikola Kantar, assisted by Edwards and Lorenzo Carboni, sealed Stanton's 10th goal — a new program record.
The Elks outshot the Pioneers 22-4 in a display of complete dominance from start to finish.
With this emphatic win, Stanton improves their Cal Pac standing and carries unstoppable momentum into their final regular season match against Simpson University in Redding.
